Cache of explosive devices recovered in Manipur’s Imphal East, none harmed

A major disaster was averted in Manipur on Thursday after the Indian Army, in a joint operation with the Manipur Police, recovered a large cache of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the hilly regions of Imphal East district, officials said.
The operation took place near the villages of Bongjang and Itham, preventing a potentially devastating threat to life and property.
Acting on specific intelligence input, joint columns of the Indian Army and Manipur Police launched a swift and comprehensive search operation. The Army explosives detection dogs played a crucial role in the mission, which led to the discovery of seven IEDs weighing a total of approximately 28.5 kg.
Experts from the Army Engineers’ unit promptly diffused the explosives, ensuring that no harm was caused.
The recovery of these IEDs has effectively averted what could have been a major catastrophe, saving many lives and averting damage to public property.
The successful operation underlines the continued efforts of the Indian Army and Manipur Police to maintain peace and security in the region, which has seen intermittent insurgent activities.
Authorities have expressed relief and commended the quick response and coordinated efforts of the security forces. Further investigations are underway to determine the origin and intended targets of the IEDs, as security remains heightened in the area.
